The Star Wars Universe has created some of the most iconic characters out there. With great designs, stories, and personalities for each hero or villain, there are many to choose from. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, but who are the very best Star Wars characters?
In this piece, we’ll review each character’s power stats as gathered by the Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes Database, Wookiepedia, and the Star Wars website. The Galaxy has hundreds of alien races, so we had to narrow this list down to just 10 along with some very close honourable mentions!

Here’s our Star Wars Character tier list, as ranked via statistics including power, speed, health, maximum ability, and overall likeability.
1. Darth Vader
The chosen one, or so they all thought. The former Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker was believed to be the most powerful of all the Jedi but was lured to the dark side by Darth Sidious.
After a ruthless fight with his former master Obi-Wan, Anakin was left dying in the fires of Mustafar, burnt to a crisp with no arms and legs. The Emperor rebuilt the former Jedi, but what was once the hopeful and passionate Anakin Skywalker is no more. Filled with hatred and pain, the infamous Darth Vader was born.
Darth Vader is overcome with rage and seeks revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi! Now even more powerful but physically limited, he searches for his former master and after many months finds Obi-Wan in hiding. The former Jedi Knights have a few more duels, with Obi-Wan seeming to get the edge! It is only in their final meeting that Darth Vader gets the victory he lusted for, but did Obi-Wan really die?
Verdict: Darth Vader is arguably the most iconic Villain in movie history, he is chilling, scary, and powerful in every sense. Before Vader, Anakin was also a very interesting character, watching him transform from the young pod-racer on Tatooine to the most feared person in the galaxy was an emotional ride and that is why he is top of the list.
Interesting Fact: Darth Vader has crushed lungs and the only thing keeping him alive is the suit pumping artificial air around his body! You could argue that this constant pain makes him even more powerful as the Sith feed off the feeling.

2. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Padawan to the Great Qui-Gon Jinn, master to the notorious Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan is truly one of the most influential characters, if not the most influential. Obi-Wan starts off as a young enthusiastic padawan to Qui-Gon but it all changes drastically for Obi-Wan when he watches his beloved Master get killed by the Sith Apprentice Darth Maul. After a courageous battle, Obi-Wan somehow turns the tide in the duel with an inventive trick in which he leaps over Maul, grabs his master's Lightsaber, and cuts his foe in half! From that point on Obi-Wan is no longer a padawan but a Jedi master with a padawan of his own, Anakin Skywalker. After many years of training and mentoring the young Anakin he must face the hardest task of all, defeating him. Anakin was always meant to bring balance to the force but in fact he is seduced to the dark side by the evil Palpatine. It is only when Obi-Wan comes to learn that Anakin has slain young jedis in the temple will he realizes his friend is truly lost.
Their battle on the planet of Mustafar might possibly be the best duel in Star Wars history, with Anakin being seen as the much stronger fighter Obi-Wan decided to use his experience to balance the scales. Knowing Anakin is naive he takes the high ground and warns his padawan to back down. Anakin does not and is left with no arms and legs as he leaps with a vicious attack but is greeted with 3 swift swipes of Obi-Wan's blue saber.
After the battle Obi-Wan leaves and hides from the Empire, and becomes a recluse on Tatooine, and it is not till much later in the story that Luke Skywalker meets Obi-Wan.
Verdict: One of the most loved characters in the Star Wars Franchise, originally, he was only in A New Hope as the old former Jedi and even then he grabbed the hearts of fans, but after seeing the young Obi-Wan he hauly cemented himself as one of the best Characters! He even has his own tv-series that takes place between the third and fourth movies which are fantastic!
Interesting Fact: Kenobi had 3 lightsabers throughout his life, the first was a simple blue lightsaber similar to his master's Qui-Gon but lost it vs Maul. He then built another similar to the original one. Finally he created a brand new saber when he attained the role of Jedi Master.

3. Darth Maul
What's cooler than a red lightsaber? The answer is two of them put together to make a double-bladed lightsaber! Darth Maul is a Dathormoirian Sith Lord, apprentice to the ruthless Darth Sidious (Evil Emperor Palpatine).
A truly formidable warrior capable of fighting and killing not 1 but 2 Jedi’s at once. Maul is much more than a skilled fighter though, he is highly intelligent and has masterminded many evil schemes in his time. Especially ones related to causing pain and suffering to his lifetime nemesis Obi-Wan.
The most influential moment of Maul happened on the Planet Naboo when he killed the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, however, that victory was split in half so to speak as he was quickly defeated by the Padawan Obi-Wan. Many believed that Maul was killed in his encounter with Obi-Wan but he did in fact survive somehow.
Verdict: He may only be in one movie (and the clone wars series), but he is without a doubt the coolest character in the franchise! Everything about him is perfect, from the look to the acrobatic fighting style he is loved and idolized by Star Wars fans as he is pure excitement every time he is on the screen.
Interesting Fact: We all know that Darth Maul was cut in two by Obi-Wan and he fell down the huge reactor shaft! What we didn’t know was that he used the force to grab onto a vent while falling! Somehow he managed to crawl to a trash container where he was dumped into the junk world Lotho Minor.

4. Kylo Ren
Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) is one of the most interesting characters in Star Wars. Like Anakin Skywalker he is always conflicted by the dark and light side of the force.
Originally named Ben (after Ben Kenobi) he was a Jedi apprentice to Luke Skywalker but everything turned to chaos, with Ben killing the other students and fleeing. That is when the Evil Emperor lured him to join the Knights of Ren.
The Emperor knew of his hatred and anger and used this to twist his mind and seduced him to the dark side of the force transforming Ben Solo into Kylo Ren. Leader of the First Order after murdering his own father Han Solo it seems he is truly lost in the darkness and wants nothing more than to see people suffer, just like his idol, Darth Vader.
Throughout the movies Kylo and Rey have a unique connection and can communicate with each other even when worlds apart… this kindles into a very unusual relationship and due to this bond Kylo starts to show he is not truly lost to the Dark Side. It is this bond that determines the fate of the Galaxy, sacrificing himself to save Rey.
Verdict: Kylo makes this list for many reasons, at first he is seen as the new scary yet awe-inspiring baddy with his mask and unique lightsaber. But as the story progresses the layers unveil and he is much more than a badass in a mask. Kylo has moments where the audience is shocked in horror at his evil choices, however, he also has some of the most captivating moments in the latest movies making him a true fan favorite in the end.
Interesting Fact: Kylo’s lightsaber is one of a kind and that is why it is so badass! It is powered by a broken Kyber crystal which is why it is so violent and shaky. It also has an exhaust vent cross guard which creates the cross-sword design and makes it even more deadly!
Bonus Fact, He is Called Kylo ‘Ren’ as he joined the Knights of Ren, an infamous group of killers who align with the First Order and cause havoc wherever they go.

5. The Mandalorian
One of the newest additions to the Star Wars Universe is the Mandalorian Din Djarin. An instant fan favorite due to his mysterious nature, and badass energy. A battle-worn bounty hunter who is tasked with a mission to find and destroy a certain package. When realizing what his mission really is, he has a change of heart after realizing his target is little more than a child. This is where his journey begins, looking after a child of some sort with no idea what to do with it, he travels the galaxy looking for answers, as well as constantly beating off the empire who want nothing more than to kill or hurt the child
Verdict: The Mandalorian Din Djarin brought something that many Star Wars Fans have wanted for a long time, a cool story based around someone who isn’t skilled in the force! We all love lightsabers and the force but sometimes seeing people without are more relatable which is why “Mando” is loved so much! He is a quiet and straight to the point badass bounty hunter with a heart of gold, what more do you want?
Interesting Fact: The Mandalorians are known for their courageous combat skills. Originally their combat style was created to fight force wielders (aka Jedi). Even their armor can be the difference between life and death vs a lightsaber.
Mandalorian was a huge hit and there are loads of cool merch, such as the Mando Hot Wheels and Airpods.
6. Han Solo
Has there ever been a cooler character? Maybe Jar Jar Binks, but Han Solo has got to be up there! The Corellian Born Pilot is famous across the galaxy for many reasons, but mainly the iconic parsec run. The first time we meet Han is at the Mos Eisley Cantina when Ben Kenobi is looking for a ship to transport him and Luke.
Instantly we can tell that Han Solo is a charismatic rebellious man who puts himself and partner Chewy first, which is probably a smart move in such a dangerous place. He agrees to help the old man and Luke but the task becomes much bigger than he thought and ends up in a confrontation with the Empire.
After much convincing (mainly by Leia) Han and Chewy join the fight and help the Rebels fight the Empire, he plays a huge part and helps them win the space battle in miraculous fashion with his iconic Millenium Falcon.
Verdict: Not much explaining needs to be done for Han Solo, the coolest character in Star Wars, Han Solo is loved by everyone. He is Charismatic and sometimes charming but it’s his quick wits and quick pistol draws that certify him in this list.
Interesting Fact: Han Solo nearly appeared as his younger self in Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith! It is the first time we are introduced to his best friend and partner Chewbacca but sadly Han was not featured in the movie in the end.
Han Solo is one of the best characters ever, just to prove it we have Han Solo Funko, Hot Wheels Cars and even Han Solo talking plush!
7. Luke Skywalker
A former Tatooine farm boy turned Jedi Master; Luke truly has one of the most captivating storylines in the Star Wars Franchise!
Living with his uncle and auntie on the farm, Luke stumbles upon the old and weathered Obi-Wan (now goes as Ben). Ben tells Luke stories of his true father Anakin and explains to him his destiny is waiting for him off this sandy planet. Ben becomes Luke’s teacher and tries to encourage him to use his power in the force.
A huge moment in Luke’s story is when he watches helplessly as his master is slain by the tall dark figure that is Darth Vader. This ignites a feeling in him that he cannot resist. He must avenge Ben Kenobi, this is when he takes his first step to becoming a Jedi Knight.
Luke becomes more powerful throughout the story until eventually he is arguably the most powerful fighter in the galaxy, beating Vader with ease and killing the Evil Emperor… or so he thought.
Verdict: Similar to his father, he started with nothing and trained to become one of the most powerful people in the galaxy! Luke makes this list due to his determination, fighting ability and overall love from the fans! He was, after all, the original Hero.
Interesting Fact: Luke Skywalker originally built his own green lightsaber, but the clip was removed from the movie. Watch the clip on YouTube, here!

8. Chewbacca
Every badass needs a companion, and Chewbacca might be one of if not the best companion there is! The Wookie Warrior is a warm-hearted loveable character but you certainly don’t want to get on the wrong side of the hairy beast as he has been known to rip stormtroopers in half…. Yep!
From the Forest World of Kashyyyk, originally fighting the Droids to save his planet but then ambushed by the clones he had to flee for his life. Luckily, he and Yoda survived the attack and went their separate ways. The huge Wookie spent most of his life with his longtime co-pilot Han Solo in the Millenium Falcon fighting against the Empire. Even after Han’s sad death, Chewy continues to co-pilot the Falcon with Rey and others on intergalactic quests.
Verdict: A character that has been here from the beginning right up until the end, the loveable Chewy is a fan favorite and offers something a lot of other Star Wars Characters don't. He may only be a ‘side’ character similar to R2-D2 or C3P0 but always provides humor and something different.
Interesting Fact: The first time we see Chewbacca (A New Hope) he is around 200 years old! However, that is only middle age for a Wookie, with them being able to reach up to 400 years old due to their ability to heal quickly.

9. Yoda
The Sith have Darth Sidious and the Jedi have Master Yoda! Yoda is an interesting yet quite unknown character in the Star Wars Universe. His homeworld and Species are actually not distinguished or verified. Many believe that is because Yoda and his race believe some secrets are best kept a secret for safety.
Yoda is famous for 3 reasons, he is really small (2ft apparently), green and super powerful! He was the Jedi Grand Master for a reason. Trained in the Jedi arts for over 800 years Yoda plays an integral part in almost all the Jedi’s stories as it is ultimately his wisdom and choices that help the Jedi become stronger. Many believe that Yoda did not die and he is in fact immortal, but that’s for you to decide.
Verdict: Yoda may not have a whole lot of screen time but the small amount he does have is certainly entertaining. The Jedi Grandmaster is slow, old and wise…. Until it is time to duel! His fights vs Dooku and Sidious are some of the best that we see! He is loved by all and plays a large part in the evolution of both Luke and Anakin Skywalker.
Interesting Fact: In the 4th movie A New Hope, Ben Kenobi mentions that Yoda was his trainer but we can see from the Phantom Menace that it was indeed Qui-Gon.
Yoda may have not trained Obi-Wan, but he did train Mace Windu, Kit Fisto and Ki-Adi Mundi who were all extremely powerful and on the Jedi council.

10. Rey
An abandoned child on the scavenger world Jakku, Rey was a nobody. That all changed when she met a little droid called BB-8. She decided to help the droid return to its original owner, little did she know that she was about to embark on one of the galaxy's greatest quests.
After finding out she is powerful in the force her journey as a Jedi begins as does her ongoing feud with the menacing Kylo Ren. There is much more to Rey than many realize and it is certainly not a coincidence that she is so powerful in the force. After many years battling Kylo Ren and the First Order it all comes down to a divine moment vs the Evil Emperor…. and that is when he reveals she is his granddaughter.
Verdict: The newest hero in the Star Wars Franchise, Rey has her similarities to the originals Luke and Anakin but it's her unique qualities that make her stand out and solidify her place in this list. Rey is very likable but she has a ferocity within her that we are not used to seeing in Jedis. She is certainly a unique character with a great story.
Interesting Fact: Rey is arguably a “Grey Jedi”, someone who does not follow the rules of the Jedi and can use both sides of the force.
